Our Story
We started with youth and future genrations, then pivoted to catalytic collaborative advancing criminal justice, global development, and humanitarian solutions
Founded in 2019 by Oswald Newbold II, Libra-Life Mentoring Services Inc. began as a nonprofit committed to empowering youth and future generations through mentorship, life skills development, and personal growth. Oswald’s vision was rooted in the belief that every young person deserves access to positive role models and a strong support system to navigate life’s challenges and seize their full potential.
From the beginning, Libra-Life launched transformative programs that equipped young people with essential tools for success, ranging from career readiness and financial literacy to leadership development, policy advocacy, and conflict mediation.
As our impact grew, so did our mission. We identified a critically overlooked group: children and young adults who have an incarcerated or formerly incarcerated parent. These young people often face stigma, social exclusion, and lack of support. In response, we sharpened our focus to serve this population of young people more intentionally, while also working to elevate the voices and rights of justice-impacted individuals in global spaces. This shift led to the creation of Libra-Life International, a nonprofit social enterprise expanding our advocacy to the global stage. Our work now centers not only on mentorship of youth and young adults, but on systemic reform and addressing the root causes of marginalization through a rights-based, intersectional approach connecting criminal justice, global development, and humanitarian action.
Today, Libra-Life International builds bridges between communities, governments, and global stakeholders to promote inclusive, collective action. We align our efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—especially SDG 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions), alongside SDGs on poverty (SDG 1), health (SDG 3), decent work (SDG 8), gender equality (SDG 5), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10)—ensuring that no one is left behind.
Grounded in grassroots leadership, Libra-Life Mentoring Services Inc., doing business as Libra-Life International, remains committed to empowering those most often overlooked. We center their voices and lived experiences to co-create lasting solutions that promote justice, equity, and transformation—locally and globally.
